In most countries and cultures including Haiti, people are familiar with the basic musical scale “do-re-mi-fa-so-la-ti-do”. DORE being the first two notes of this scale represents the beginnings of the basics. We believe that firm foundations support great expectations. Our group is like a seed in fertile ground which grows up and beyond unlimited branches to produce tasty nutritious fruit through the Haitian music style known as “Compas” or “Kompa“. In our native land of Haiti the expressive language “Creole” is passionately spoken. The word “dore” is also a Creole idiom or slang term meaning bright and golden, attractive and desirable, valuable and priceless, like gold & platinum. Now allow us to introduce ourselves, we are…
DORE, …a Haitian band that plays compas. Our goal is simply to create enjoyable music for you to have fun dancing, singing, and thinking. Our sound is a creative blend of old school influences along with the modern kompa style. It’s a combination that appeals to all ages and is unique among groups of this genre. DORE also aims to positively share our artistic Haitian culture world wide. Leading us in these efforts is lead vocalist and songwriter Samuel Menard. Before co-founding DORE with Leslie Percinthe, he was a vocalist for other groups including Loray Mizik Machine, Feeling du Cap-Haitien, and the internationally famous Tropicana. Sam says this is the first time that he feels like it’s “my” band. Junel “J-Maestro” Pierre, the coordinating maestro is also a songwriter, arranger, and keyboard player. Also playing keyboards is Jordany Petit-Frere. Leslie the co-founder is another skilled songwriter and bass player. Alix Pierre is “the man” on the drums. On percussion, we have Wedley Cetout on congas and Rodrigue Magloire on floor tom & cowbell.
